Grown People

I saw you struggle

And you waved me off

But I saw you struggle

The hundreds passed

you, with no struggle

But I saw you struggle

And you waved me off

And I saw you struggle

Glistening but helpless

A jarring sight and yet

which was unable

to elicit others’ efforts

I saw you struggle

Much like a prey,

conquered but waiting,

your neck

pinched by jaws and

you waved me off

I saw you struggle, and

nearly begged you to

accept what help

I’d offered you, to

help massage my

discomforted conscience

–perhaps

But you waived me off

Every time,

someone still tells me,

I should have done more
