Clown fish.

I want to do more than I can be,
and it makes me feel small;
and all I want is to go to sleep.

Alone in this room —
Yet somehow my presence is an elephant
who can’t bear to stick around,
And each minnow that bounces
off my enormous leg is a reminder

there are people in life who siphon up favors,
Unsquashable few —
who prove that what goes around comes around,
and to whom I cannot help but be nice.

Smiles on all of them —
Who are graceless when they claim a frown.
They validate the fact no publicity is bad,
And prove to me that it’s OK to be that man,
And so for them I pour my glass.
